This garage deserves some kind of accolade, as throughout the entire Cost of Living Crisis, it has consistently lead the field with the lowest fuel prices in the region, not just the Bishop Auckland area. Whilst the local supermarket forecourts were virtually empty G. W Holmes and Son had queues around the block for it's fuel.

Only recently has the penny dropped with the supermarket cartel and those prices have gradually fallen into line with G. W Holmes and Son. Too little, far too late, government intervention of a windfall tax on them is the only way that they will ever learn. If they were ramping up the cost of fuel, you can only imagine what they are doing to the food supply chain. Pushing up inflation and making us all struggle in the long run.

This garage has led the very way and shown them up for what they all are.

The staff are always friendly and courteous to customers, the garage shop is handy too. As I only live a mile away, it has gained my total loyalty!

Whilst it's easy to gather good reviews selling a new product, when you're selling a used product, sometimes things have little hiccups and these hiccups test the mettle of the company that you're dealing with. I had a little hiccup on my van.Thomas and his crew were absolutely amazing, doing everything they possibly could. It was a big purchase for me but I never worried that the fault wont be cured. Thomas was so reassuring offering to collect the van 200 miles away or book it in with my local Ford. To be honest, I chose to drive back myself and had a wonderful time. Mechanics had the required parts waiting (just a split pipe). Full explanations given. Van drives lovely now. As other people have stated in these reviews, G.W. Holmes will be getting my future business! A cracking buying experience!

What can I say about G W Holmes?
From start to finish, Thomas was exceptional, although probably got a bit fed up with me keep ringing him. This wasn't for anything bad, just trying to pay a deposit, which he didn't seem to need.
The new van, is exactly as advertised (immaculate) Delivered free and on time, and even then I hadn't paid Thomas. I have never purchased a vehicle from anyone as trustworthy. I will definitely be using him again

From the first moment to the sale the service was first class, I spoke to the owner ref my requirements he showed me to a vehicle that he thought would meet my requirements and then left me to my own devices, I looked around the vehicle over the next ten minutes or so and then agreed to buy the vehicle. Never once did anyone pester or pressure me, all questions were answered and everything was explained professionally, MOT, warranty, breakdown etc. The test drive was also conducted in the same manner no pressure and very professional. The vehicle was prepared and delivered by the owner the next day so I could get an early start the next morning when my insurance started. The COVID 19 precautions that had been taken ready for delivery were outstanding all parts of the vehicle that could be touched by the driver were well covered. Having never been to the garage before I did not know what to expect, what I got was an outstanding service from start to finish. Thanks for a prefect sale.

thank you both for all your help, sorry to give you that problem. Steven hit it on the head, has to have been an airlock, there was no loss of water, no spitting water out the back and no more sign of blue smoke. I learnt that there are bleed points on the system but that is something that I hope I never need to know again.

We all get a bit worried when buying a second hand car but I heard a lot about this garage G.W HOLMES & SON so I followed them on Facebook. took a look down after we seen a family car we liked. After a few minutes of looking around I was approached by the sales manager. I pointed out the car I was interested in and he talked me through everything and at no point did I feel pressured in to buying it. had a test drive and bought the car and came with great warranty. They are a m.o.t test centre with in-house fully qualified mechanics so any problems just contact them. Excellent customer service. I would recommend this garage to anyone.

I work as a community staff nurse and rely solely on my car for work, my clutch had decided to fail me and I had taken it to GW Holmes to have repaired as it was local to where I live. Thomas took my history and had given me a rough timeframe of repair. I purchased a Ford Transit Connect from Thomas at G W Holmes & Son and I have to say I had a great experience from start to finish.
PRE-SALE...After a test drive I asked for a few minor points to be addressed before purchase and Thomas agreed without question.
DURING...We agreed a day to collect and when I returned Thomas put the van up on the ramp and showed me all the work had been done, he'd put 12 months MOT on it and even put in a full tank of diesel!
AFTERSALES...A couple of days after getting the van home I had an unforeseen problem with it and again Thomas could have not been more helpful, I booked it in to my local garage and Thomas liaised with them and paid for all the work to be carried out.

To anyone reading this..... I've been looking for the right car since mine was written off last year (when I wasn't even in it) and searching for a replacement has been a nightmare. To cut a long story short, we finally found the right car on-line at G.W Holmes & Son's garage in Durham... and they have just delivered it all the way to Shaftesbury in Dorset. The car ended up being a better price including delivery than buying the same car (same age, mileage etc) locally.
The main thing though, has been the service. It has been second to none and I am being truthful when I say we would look first at this garage when we next need a car, wherever in the UK we live.
It's so nice to find a (family) business with good old fashioned values that you can trust.
I don't usually leave feedback on things I buy, because I'm too pushed for time, but this was too good an experience not to write about!
